Most people could be described as "indian givers." What they give they want back, or they want something equivalent in return. Other terms used to describe such behavior are: "pay to play," "quid pro quo," and "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." This type of mentality is built into our society -- that almost nothing can be given without a price, and that whatever is given, an equivalent offering ought to be received in return.
