TEXT: Matthew 5:27-30
Jesus follows up his command against adultery of the heart with a statement designed to show just how serious this sin -- and all sin -- is. He says, "If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." The eye is the doorway of lust. You see something or someone that you want, and inwardly, you desire to have that person. The lustful person keeps looking at that which he should not have, and that prolonged look leads to increased desire, and increased desire leads to sin.
