TEXT: Matthew 5:1-12
Jesus' words in verses 11-12 are an extension of the eighth and final beatitude: "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." The blessing or reward is promised to those who are reviled, hated, and persecuted. Those against whom false accusations are made are on a shortlist for great rewards.
