TEXT: Matthew 3:1-9 The audiences that came to hear John preach can be divided into two basic groups. First, there are those who eagerly took heed to John's message, repented, and were baptized by him. They were the ones described in verse four: they heard John preach and they were "baptized of him, confessing their sins." Then there were those who needed some extra prodding, "the Pharisees and the Sadducees" who came primarily just to see what John was up to. When John saw them, he said, "O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"
